Author Spotlight & Giveaway! - Sarri Morin, Author of Darkness Embraced

It has been a really long while since we have brought an author on for an interview, which we hope to remedy for the later part of the year. I have just been reading like a mad woman to keep up with my wish list and keeping up with reviews.

This is a special interview for me though, as this author is a friend and co-worker. She has been working on her first novel of this series for years, and I had the honor of being one of her first beta readers.  Paranormal romance is one of my preferred genres, and I was very happy to read it.  It's always tough to critique a friend, but Sarri was hungry for feedback. After years of edits and re-writes, she finally took a leap of faith and self-published. I, for one, am excited to read the finished product.

Interview

1. What was your inspiration for your first novel?

There were many inspirations for writing my first book; I have always written even when I was younger, I just never thought that I could get anywhere with it.  My friends used to read what I wrote and they would compare me to Danielle Steele or Judith Krantz.  I would just laugh and brush it off.  One day my girlfriend Dina gave me my very first "Paranormal Romance" and I was hooked.  Then I started to read a whole bunch of really good authors in that genre.

My friends, family and husband all had an integral part in helping me to pursue my dream of writing.  When I finally finished my first chapter, which had been when I was house sitting for my mom, little did I know that I would be on my way to writing a  series or that it would develop into what it is today.

2. What is your favorite character in your novel and why?

That is a tricky question. I like all of my characters and each one of them has a little bit of gumption. With that being said I would have to say that Josephine is my favorite character. She survived her husband's death and is raising two children. She has to accept and deal with the unknown. Then she has to deal with the fact she has died a mortal death and must still be able to raise her family. She is a survivor. She deals with her new way of life and accepts what she has to face and comes out on top through many battles.

3. If you were to cast your main characters for a movie or tv series, who would you choose and why?

I would choose Julianne Moore and Viggo Mortensen- a lot of thought has gone into these two actors as they needed to represent to me something that I see in the characters themselves.

I see in Julianne resemblance in looks, and from her past performances, I have been able to identify with her character, so I think that she would be able to portray Josephine and have the audience relate to her. I had also thought about Jessica Biel, because I was able to identify with her character in Blade Trinity, I thought to myself, "this is a paranormal romance this would be right up her alley," but Julianne won the vote. I really do like her as an actress; she is one of my favorites to watch.

Picking an actor for Corin, was a little more challenging, but Viggo won the vote. I love watching him in all the different rolls he plays. My all time favorite is in the Lord of the Rings, and this is the role that did it for me. The "Hero/Leader" part he played was so well done, hook, line and sinker.

4. What is your favorite writing atmosphere?

My favorite writing atmosphere is.... anywhere! I love to write and if the idea comes to me I generally don't pass up the opportunity. I normally travel with my trustworthy lap-top with me. Winter is when I get most of my writing done as well as weekends. Summer time gets hectic because I devote my time to my children, coaching their sports as well as spending quality time with family on trips. I enjoy a relaxing and calm setting, like curling up on my couch by a fire.

5. Who is your favorite author? What are you currently reading right now?

I have tons of favorite Authors, but my most favorite is Maggie Shayne. Her Twilight series is my favorite. Maggie has been a big inspiration for me in writing and has been one of the few artists that have communicated with me and encouraged me to keep going. More recently she has even checked out my website and made me the happiest person alive.
Nina Bangs is another favorite author.

I am currently reading Sherilyn Kenyon's Acheron.
