Lucy’s Chantress magic will make her the most powerful—and most hunted—girl in England.

“Sing, and the darkness will find you.” This warning has haunted fifteen-year-old Lucy ever since she was eight and shipwrecked on a lonely island. Lucy’s guardian, Norrie, has lots of rules, but the most important is that Lucy must never sing. Not ever. Now it is 1667, Lucy is fifteen, and on All Hallows’ Eve, Lucy hears a tantalizing melody on the wind. She can’t help but sing—and she is swept into darkness.

When she awakes in England, Lucy hears powerful men discussing Chantresses—women who can sing magic into the world. They are hunting her, but she escapes and finds sanctuary with the Invisible College, an organization plotting to overthrow the nefarious Lord Protector. The only person powerful enough to bring about his downfall is a Chantress. And Lucy is the last one in England.

Lucy struggles to master the song-spells and harness her power, but the Lord Protector is moving quickly. And her feelings for Nat, an Invisible College apprentice and scientist who deeply distrusts her magic, only add to her confusion...

Time is running out, and the fate of England hangs in the balance in this entrancing novel that is atmospheric and lyrical, dangerous and romantic.

Many years ago, I was a two genre reader. Thrillers and Horror. Until the day that my mother brought home a thick fantasy novel that one of her clients had read and wanted to share with me. The main female character in the novel was a 'Chantress' type, and her songs were powerful weapons of destruction. I was enthralled, and moved on to read Fantasy, after Fantasy.  Though I can't even remember the title anymore (I still remember the cover), or the writer, that story has stuck with me for years.

'Chantress', though an enjoyable YA Fantasy, did not do the same for me. In fact, it isn't even very memorable months after having read it.  The plotline was predictable, though the characters were very interesting.

It did not take me long to get through it, but it was missing that special something that I was hoping for when I read the synopsis, and I was reminded of that mysterious fantasy novel from so long ago. Maybe approaching this novel with that comparison in mind was my mistake.

As a Young Adult Fantasy, this novel delivered.  The writing skill is excellent in submerging you seamlessly into this storyline. There is young romance, enough action and political intrigue to fulfill reader's expectations and get you excited for the next in the series.

Amy Butler Greenfield was a grad student in history when she gave into temptation and became a writer. Since then, she has become an award-winning author.
Amy grew up in the Adirondack Mountains and later studied history at Williams College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Oxford. She now lives with her family in England, where she writes, bakes double-dark-chocolate cake, and plots mischief.

From Page to Reel...New Meme!!!

Hi Bookluvrs!

I am so excited to start the new meme that Lily and I created earlier this year!!

We read a lot of other book blogs and it came to our attention that nobody has touched on this subject...and it is a subject that will never die.  Those books that we love so dearly being adapted to film.

There seems to be a love/hate relationship when discussing books that become blockbuster hits!

We have decided to start a meme to discuss these books and our opinions on whether or not the movie did the book justice.

Stay tuned to Bookluvrs Haven because this Sunday we will be showcasing one of the most popular, most talked about book to film adaptations....

...and i'll leave you on the edge of your seat

See you Sunday!

Review Quickies! - Wolf Dawn & OCD Love Story

Earlier this year I became a reading ninja! I digested one novel after the other, faster than I could review them. But I don't want these books to go forgotten, so I decided to do some quick reviews for the following two novels and catch up on my review list.

Ashton Chayton was born with a powerful gift, a unique inhuman ability. Orphaned, raised by the Red Wolves of Opan, captured and enslaved - he is now free and on the run. Unfortunately everybody wants Ashton. Admiral Jones will torture him to get the secret of his power. Lady Lindha feels he is "The One" as named in Temple prophecy. The influential Lord Andros just wants him dead.

Ashton only wants two things: revenge, and the Lady Lindha. If you had unique powers, wouldn't you use them to get what you want?

Science Fiction is not my forte. Yet the synopsis of this novel intrigued me. It felt more fantasy and I am definitely a fan of that.

This novel had so many amazing elements.  The genocide of a race with amazing abilities, Ashton's harrowing escape with his mother from their planet, and a villain that I couldn't even describe as remotely human due to his utter depravity should have enchanted me and kept me glued.

For the first third of the novel, it sure did. But it took me a longer time than usual to get through this novel. I had to put it down for a while and then get back to it so I could see how this story progressed.  It wasn't because it wasn't an exciting story, or written well. I just don't think I picked the right time to read it, as I didn't feel like I was in the right mood for it. I would actually read this a second time, when it's the right time.

When Bea meets Beck, she knows instantly that he’s her kind of crazy. Sweet, strong, kinda-messed-up Beck understands her like no one else can. He makes her feel almost normal. He makes her feel like she could fall in love again.

But despite her feelings for Beck, Bea can’t stop thinking about someone else: a guy who is gorgeous and magnetic... and has no idea Bea even exists. But Bea knows a lot about him. She spends a lot of time watching him. She has a journal full of notes. Some might even say she’s obsessed.

Bea tells herself she’s got it all under control. But this isn’t a choice, it’s a compulsion. The truth is, she’s breaking down...and she might end up breaking her own heart.

It was an interesting story about two likeable but troubled characters that just wanted to belong in a world where their ways of coping were not the 'norm'.  Bea's obsessive OCD behavior was heartbreaking, though to her, it was just how she got through the day. Bea was certainly unique, as most of these characters and their stories were, if slightly disturbing to me. I just simply can't imagine being a prisoner to my own mind and the psychological need to do certain things in order to function.

Another YA plotline that I could not ignore, even though my reading list was near impossible the month I read this. I couldn't resist it, and for what it's worth... It was a really fast read.

Yet..... it didn't really wow me, nor was it very memorable to me. Though I don't doubt that many YA fans will fall in love with OCD Love Story.

Giveaway - Changeling (Order of Darkness #1), by Philippa Gregory (US & Canada Only)

It's back to school time, and I am not exempted. I will be starting a couple of courses again this week. It's going to be a busy few months for me, but not to worry. Lots of reviews and content will continue to roll out on this blog.

But with back to school, I like to declutter a little bit, just to feel more organized. I won't have too much time on my hands, so this clean sweep makes me feel a little better.

I took the chance to go through some ARCs and book copies received and thought to share some of these copies with you guys so keep checking back for more giveaways.

Last year I was lucky enough to win a copy of 'Changeling', by Philippa Gregory. Read it; enjoyed the adventure and would like to pass that on to a lucky reader. This book has even traveled! It was my reading choice for a short trip to the Bahamas in February of this year.  Enter below for a chance to grab it for your own bookshelf!

Random Reads - September Pick!

Random Reads is hosted by I'm Loving Books, and for a reader that has a list that is way too long, this meme is perfect. It helps me to pick out a novel in the list that may be sitting there forgotten for a long while.

This meme is pretty simple. The idea is to pick one random book (or more if you are ambitious) out of your Goodreads To-Read list (using Random.org) to read within the month.

My August Random Read was The Memory Keeper's Daughter, by Kim Edwards, which, once again, I barely finished in time for an end of the month review, which you can read here.  It took me a little longer than usual to get through it, because it was a slower paced, deeper novel, which I anticipated, but enjoyable nonetheless.

So what's in store for September?
